January 26th: Bird Log Part 2 - The Red Tail Family
So very happy to see pretty much all of them today (Lluvie -Juvie the youngest was missing in action) — But first, let me introduce you to Junior (that last picture in the set was shot January 19th) I spotted him last week, and if it hadn’t been for the color of his eyes, I could have sworn it was Cee. Same build, same size, same curiosity. From the looks of him, he’s in his first 2 years, and his eyes should be changing soon. He has most of the roufus on his tail feathers, something that Lluvie does not have - so I’m figuring she’s around 1 or so.
We made our rounds, and as usual, right when we’re about to throw in the towel, we spot them. First Elle, was flying off into the sunset, then we catch Cee & Junior perched! I was so excited to see them together. I took a few shots, but it wasn’t long before a truck drove by and startled Junior. He flew off, but Cee waited a moment before he glided off to catch up with him. We followed them down to the Flicker trees (where we first spotted the Northern Flickers) and found not one, not two, but all three of them! Elle and Junior were perched together, and Cee was in the next tree over watching them. I considered getting out of the car to get better shots, but I didn’t want to take that chance, and have Elle fly off. Sitting back and watching really paid off today. Having the chance to see all three of them interact was pretty wonderful :)
